Atletico Madrid secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves on Saturday, extending their winning streak in La Liga (Source: All Football App). The win, however, wasn’t as comfortable as the scoreline suggests.

Alaves stunned the home crowd at the Civitas Metropolitano with a penalty goal in the seventh minute. The visitors, currently battling relegation, looked determined to cause an upset.

Atletico struggled to break down a resolute Alaves defense in the first half. However, Diego Simeone’s halftime adjustments seemed to work as they emerged with renewed purpose in the second half.

The breakthrough finally came in the 78th minute with a goal from Rodrigo De Paul. The Argentine midfielder’s strike injected life into the Atletico attack, and they continued to press for the winner.

Their persistence paid off in the 89th minute when Antoine Griezmann rose to the occasion. The French forward’s header secured all three points for Atletico, sending the home fans into a frenzy.

This win extends Atletico Madrid’s winning streak in La Liga to five games. They are now firmly positioned in third place, just behind Barcelona and current leaders Real Madrid.

While the victory is crucial for their title aspirations, Atletico will need to address their vulnerabilities in defense if they want to challenge for the championship. They were fortunate not to concede more against a determined Alaves side.

The upcoming weeks will be a true test for Atletico Madrid. They face a crucial run of fixtures against some of the best teams in La Liga. Can they maintain their winning form and stay in the title race?
