In a move aimed at fostering reconciliation, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara, recently met with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The meeting took place at Wike�s residence in Abuja.

Governor Fubara was accompanied by Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State, and former Governor Olusegun Osoba of Ogun State.

Sources indicate that upon arrival at the residence, Fubara “walked straight into Wike�s living room because that�s a familiar terrain” and reportedly appealed to the Minister. Details on whether this meeting will lead to the end of the state of emergency remain unconfirmed.

This meeting follows a recent encounter between Fubara and President Bola Tinubu in London.

The rift between Fubara and Wike emerged shortly after Fubara assumed office as governor in 2023.

To prevent the escalating crisis from developing into a broader security issue�especially given threats from Niger Delta militants to target oil installations in the state�President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.

The President also suspended Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the state Assembly for six months and appointed a Sole Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.

Wike had previously stated that he initially sought Fubara’s outright removal from office, but President Tinubu’s intervention prevented this.
