Al Nassr has officially announced the signing of Spanish defender Iñigo Martínez, who joins the Saudi Pro League club as a free agent after a successful season with Barcelona. The club confirmed the move on Sunday, with Martínez signing a contract that will keep him in Riyadh until 2026.

The transfer marks a strategic move for both the player and the clubs involved. The 34-year-old center-back terminated his contract with Barcelona a year early, a decision that helps the Catalan club manage its salary cap and register new signings. Martínez arrives at Al Nassr following a standout season with Barcelona, where he was a key figure in the team’s historic domestic treble win, securing the La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup titles.

A veteran of Spanish football, Martínez began his career at Real Sociedad before moving to Athletic Bilbao in 2018 and then to Barcelona in 2023. He has also earned 21 caps for the Spanish national team, bringing a wealth of experience to his new club.

Martinez is a major addition to the Al Nassr squad, which is led by manager Jorge Jesus. His arrival follows the high-profile signing of Portuguese forward João Félix from Chelsea earlier this summer. The club has also secured the future of star player Cristiano Ronaldo, who extended his contract until 2027.

Al Nassr is currently preparing for the new season, with a crucial match on the horizon. The club will face Al Ittihad in the semi-final of the Saudi Super Cup on August 19 in Hong Kong. Martínez is expected to provide a significant boost to the team’s defensive strength as they pursue domestic and continental titles.
