Newcastle United have officially announced the signing of German defender Malick Thiaw from Serie A club AC Milan. The 24-year-old center-back joins the Magpies on a long-term contract, becoming the club’s third major addition of the summer transfer window.

Financial details of the deal were not formally disclosed by the clubs, but multiple sources in the British media report the transfer fee is approximately £34.6 million, with potential add-ons.

Player and Performance Details
Thiaw was a key figure in AC Milan’s defense last season, making 31 appearances across all competitions. However, his playing time decreased toward the end of the campaign as the team struggled, finishing in eighth place in Serie A. Thiaw has also earned three caps for the German national team, all of which came in 2023.

Manager’s Statement
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his admiration for the new signing in a statement. “We’re really pleased to have Malick on board. He’s a player I’ve admired for a long time and somebody who will add real quality to our defensive options,” Howe said.

Newcastle’s Transfer Window and Season Outlook
Thiaw’s arrival follows the signings of winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on a loan deal from Southampton. The club, which secured a Champions League spot with a fifth-place finish last season, will begin its new Premier League campaign with a trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.
