Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, has confirmed that the club’s new signing, Mikel Merino, suffered a shoulder injury during his very first training session with the team.
Merino, who recently completed a £31.6 million move from Real Sociedad to Arsenal, collided with a teammate, resulting in a “small fracture” that will require him to be sidelined for “a few weeks.”

During the pre-match press conference earlier today, August 30, ahead of Arsenal’s home Premier League game against Brighton at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, Arteta said he is disappointed over the injury.

“Yes very unfortunate. Yesterday he had a collision and he has got a shoulder injury, unfortunately. It looks like he is going to be out for a few weeks,” Arteta said.

“He was excited and everything was looking really good. He landed on the floor,r and Gabi landed on top of him, and it looked like he had a small fracture, probably.

“We have to see. He was in so much pain, we have to wait to do some more tests.”

The absence of Mikel Merino is not expected to affect the form of Arsenal who have recorded two victories in their first two Premier League games against Wolves and Aston Villa.

The team is now gearing up to face Brighton at the Emirates, with both teams currently holding a 100 per cent winning record so far this season.
