In a fitting tribute to their late captain, Bayern Munich secured the first-ever Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup with a 2-1 victory over Stuttgart at the MHPArena. This win marks Bayern’s record-extending 11th Super Cup title.

While the atmosphere was positive in Stuttgart, the home side struggled to find their footing early on, with Bayern applying relentless pressure. The deadlock was broken when Harry Kane, facing what is becoming his favorite German opponent, capitalized on a loose touch from Luca Jaquez to calmly slot the ball into the bottom corner from 18 yards out.

The goal sparked a response from Stuttgart, who began to rain shots on Manuel Neuer. However, the veteran goalkeeper proved to be in top form, making crucial saves to deny Deniz Undav, Josha Vagnoman, and Nick Woltemade, preserving Bayern’s lead until halftime.

The second half began with a scrappy, disjointed phase from both teams. Stuttgart’s Fabian Bredlow made a good stop to prevent Kane from getting his second, and Jamie Leweling forced a stunning save from Neuer with a deflected shot that looked destined for the net. Just as Stuttgart seemed to be building momentum, Bayern sealed the victory. New signing Luis Diaz headed home a cross from Serge Gnabry, sealing the outcome and extending Bayern’s unbeaten domestic away run to 10 matches.

Stuttgart managed to get a consolation goal when Leweling headed in a flick from Chema Andres in the final moments of the game. Despite the defeat, the DFB-Pokal winners will take optimism into the new Bundesliga campaign, especially with only one key player, Enzo Millot, having left so far this summer.

For new Bayern coach Vincent Kompany, this victory is a satisfying addition to the club’s extensive trophy collection and his second piece of silverware since taking charge. It also brings the Super Cup back to Bavaria for the first time since 2022.
