Popular media personality and radio presenter Do2dtun has publicly criticized local traders who staged a protest against Chinese merchants operating at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, describing their actions as double standards and selective outrage.
The protest broke out after local shop owners accused Chinese businesses of expanding beyond manufacturing and wholesale operations into direct retail sales, bringing them into direct price competition with Nigerian retailers. The local merchants claimed that the foreign vendors were undercutting market prices and disrupting traditional retail structures within the complex.
Reacting to the demonstration via his official account on X, Do2dtun questioned the moral justification for demanding the expulsion of foreign vendors simply because they offer lower prices to consumers.
“Selective outrage,” Do2dtun wrote. “You hated the fact that you were asked to leave Lagos. You called it tribalism. You hated the fact that South Africans chased Nigerians out of South Africa. You called it Xenophobia. What do you call chasing foreigners out of a place cos they sell cheaper than you? If you make excuses for the latter then you are a bldy hypocrite. Your market?. The Nigerians that have shops in China, what would you say about that? Damn you are all bloody hypocrites.”
The radio personality argued that local traders are applying conflicting standards when evaluating foreign commercial participation at home compared to the experiences of Nigerian diaspora businesses operating internationally in countries like China and South Africa. He stressed that competitive pricing benefits the public and urged stakeholders to avoid hypocritical stances when dealing with foreign investments and trade within the state.
