Manchester City delivered a dominant performance to secure a 3-0 derby day victory against Manchester United in the Premier League. The win, powered by a second-half brace from Erling Haaland, marks the first time in five head-to-head matches across all competitions that the Cityzens have defeated their rivals in regulation time.

The match, which followed a solemn minute’s applause in tribute to the late boxing great and City fan Ricky Hatton, began with high intensity from both sides. City took the lead in the 18th minute when Jeremy Doku delivered a cross to Phil Foden, who headed home his seventh career goal against Manchester United.

The second half belonged to Haaland. The Norwegian striker put on a display of clinical finishing, scoring his first goal just minutes after the restart. Doku, who was instrumental throughout the match, provided a perfectly-weighted through ball that Haaland collected before chipping it over the onrushing United goalkeeper, Altay Bayındır, to double City’s lead.

Haaland then showcased his relentless drive, pouncing on a sloppy pass from United’s defense to race onto a through ball from Bernardo Silva. He calmly slotted the ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the match, sealing the victory for City.

United’s best chance came from a powerful volley by Bryan Mbeumo, but City’s new goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, made a superb diving save to tip the ball past the post, preserving the clean sheet.

For Manchester City, the win provides a perfect response to their two consecutive league defeats and a timely lift as they prepare for a demanding week of fixtures. Meanwhile, the loss adds to the pressure on Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim, whose side has now recorded just one win in five matches this season, leaving them with one of the worst starts in their history.
