The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, has dismissed any potential merger by opposition parties aimed at ousting President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections, stating that such an alliance would not be successful.
Ganduje made these remarks after visiting former President Muhammadu Buhari at his residence in Kaduna State, accompanied by members of the APCs National Working Committee (NWC). His comments came in response to reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alongside former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Aminu Tambuwal, Gabriel Suswam, Jibrilla Bindow, and Achike Udenwa, also visited Buhari on Friday to offer Sallah greetings.
Addressing journalists, Ganduje asserted that the APC is not concerned about coalition moves by opposition politicians. “We are not worried at all. This is just history trying to repeat itself. They went on a joint venture which will not work because from what we have seen, there are just some particles that cannot come together,” he said. “It is a game, and we will not reveal our technicalities on how to handle it, but we assure you, we are equal to the task.”
The former Governor of Kano State emphasized the APC’s current strength, highlighting that the party already controls 21 states and anticipates welcoming additional governors who are expected to defect to the APC in the near future.
“We are eyeing other states that will come into our fold. Either the governors themselves will come, or we go for election and defeat them to increase our tally. We are comfortable, but we are not resting. We shall continue,” Ganduje stated.
He further declared that the APC remains “the strongest party in West Africa” and expressed confidence in the party’s ability to maintain and expand its hold on power beyond the 2027 elections.
