Juventus suffered a significant setback in their quest for UEFA Champions League qualification, falling to a 1-0 defeat against Parma in Serie A. The result marked only Parma’s second victory in their last seven home encounters against the Turin giants, with the other five ending in losses.

The match, carrying significant weight for both ends of the league table, began with early intent as Juventus captain Manuel Locatelli fired a shot wide from the edge of the box within the first minute. However, this early chance proved to be a deceptive start to a game that lacked consistent quality and conviction from both sides.

Parma were forced into an early substitution due to an injury to Alessandro Vogliacco, but the home side adapted to the change more effectively than their visitors. Despite squandering several presentable opportunities, Cristian Chivu’s Parma finally broke the deadlock in the first minute of first-half stoppage time. Emmanuele Valeri delivered a precise cross into the box, which was met by a powerful close-range header from Mateo Pellegrino, sending the home fans into elation.

Juventus began the second half with similar sluggishness, prompting manager Igor Tudor to make changes. However, it was Parma who continued to pose a greater threat on the counter-attack. A well-orchestrated move saw Simon Sohm and Pellegrino exchange passes, but Sohm’s subsequent effort was tame and easily collected by Juventus goalkeeper Michele De Gregorio.

Facing their first defeat against a side currently in the bottom half of the table this season, Juventus struggled to penetrate Parma’s resolute defense despite dominating possession and pinning the hosts back in their own third for large periods.

Tension remained palpable in the stands, given Parma’s run of five consecutive draws heading into the match. However, after Francisco Conceição’s shot went narrowly wide, Parma held firm, securing a crucial victory that lifts them six points clear of the relegation zone.

For Juventus, this defeat represents a significant missed opportunity to climb into the top four. It also marks Igor Tudor’s first loss since taking charge of the Bianconeri, leaving their Champions League aspirations hanging in the balance.
