Mohamed Salah delivered a masterclass individual performance, scoring a hat-trick and setting up another goal to guide Trabzonspor to a crushing 4-0 home victory over defending champions Galatasaray on Saturday. The result handed the Istanbul powerhouse their first defeat of the Turkish Süper Lig season and marked a dream start for new Trabzonspor manager Thomas Reis.
The Egyptian superstar opened the scoring in just the fourth minute, breaking free from midfield to finish past the goalkeeper with supreme composure. Salah then turned provider in the 39th minute, laying off a pass inside the box for Noah Saviolo to double the host’s advantage. Just before the stroke of half-time, Franculino Djú set up Salah for his second of the match, sending Trabzonspor into the break with a commanding 3-0 lead.
Salah capped off his exceptional display in the 80th minute, driving over half the length of the pitch unchallenged before curling a trademark side-foot finish into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick.
Galatasaray’s night went from bad to worse as frustration boiled over on the pitch and bench. Head coach Okan Buruk was sent to the stands in the 71st minute, while midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu was shown a direct red card in the 87th minute.
The victory lifts Trabzonspor to fifth place in the Süper Lig standings with 10 points from six matches, closing the gap to league leaders Galatasaray to just three points.
