Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for November 8, 2025.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee and Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, after the conclusion of the party’s primary election on Sunday. Ukachukwu secured a resounding victory, polling 1,455 votes to defeat his closest contender, Valentine Ozigbo, who garnered 67 votes. Other aspirants, Johnbosco Onunkwo and Edozie Madu, received 26 and 8 votes respectively. There were 26 invalid ballots recorded in the primary, which commenced on Saturday.

In his acceptance speech, Ukachukwu expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ensuring a peaceful and transparent intraparty election process. He also praised the APC National Working Committee, Senator Otu and his team, fellow aspirants, and the delegates for their dedication to a smooth and credible primary.

Calling for unity within the party, Ukachukwu urged his fellow contestants to set aside their differences and rally behind his candidacy. “The most important thing now is to deliver Anambra to the APC,†he said.

Reflecting on his influence in Anambra’s political landscape, Ukachukwu stated, “I have been instrumental in the emergence of governors in this state. I’ve played the role of a godfather in the past, but now, I’m ready to father myself.”

He reassured APC members and the people of Anambra of his commitment to their trust, pledging not to disappoint as he sets his sights on unseating the incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

With his victory at the primaries, Ukachukwu will now face off against Governor Soludo and Labour Party’s George Moghalu in what is shaping up to be a high-stakes three-way contest for the Anambra Government House.
