Nigerian international striker Taiwo Awoniyi has achieved a major personal milestone away from the pitch, graduating with Merit from the PFA Business School with a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship.
The Coventry City forward took to social media to celebrate his graduation, emphasizing his belief that active professional players should continually broaden their understanding of the sport off the field.
“Another proud moment for me off the pitch,” Awoniyi shared on Instagram. “Graduating from the PFA Business School with a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Football Sport Directorship with Merit.
“I have always believed that being a footballer shouldn’t stop you from being a student of the game, and education has become an important part of that journey for me. Still playing. Still learning. The journey continues.”

Strategic Preparation for Life Beyond Football

Awoniyi’s qualification focuses on executive sports directorship, strategic leadership, and football administration. The program provides active players with specialized administrative skills to prepare for leadership and executive roles in European and global football once their playing careers conclude.
In his statement, the Super Eagles forward expressed gratitude to the PFA Business School faculty, his academic peers, and his family for supporting him throughout his studies.

Continuing Career on the Pitch

The academic achievement comes during a transitional period in Awoniyi’s playing career. Having started his development at the Imperial Academy in Nigeria before moving to Liverpool in 2015, the striker built a prominent European career across spells in Germany with Union Berlin and in England with Nottingham Forest.
In August 2026, Awoniyi completed a permanent transfer to Coventry City under manager Frank Lampard, where he continues to feature as a key attacking option for the club while pursuing his long-term executive education.
