President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Nasir Naeem Abdulsalam as the new Managing Director of the Ajaokuta Steel Company. The announcement was made in a statement released on Friday by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information & Public Relations in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

According to the statement, Abdulsalam’s appointment took effect on April 3, 2025, and is in line with the provisions of the Certain Political and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) Act 2008 as amended. Prior to this appointment, Abdulsalam served as the Technical Adviser to the Honourable Minister of Steel Development and also as the Special Assistant (Academics) to the Director General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).

The statement quoted President Tinubu as tasking the newly appointed Managing Director to utilize his extensive experience in the steel industry to revolutionize the Ajaokuta Steel Company. The President expects Abdulsalam to drive the company towards generating significant upstream and downstream industrial and economic activities, ultimately positioning Nigeria as the industrial hub of Africa, in line with the diversification goals of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
