Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), has lauded Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as a “major political milestone.”
Speaking to journalists following a closed-door meeting of PGF members in Abuja, Governor Uzodimma emphasized the significance of Oborevwori’s move, stating, “When a governor joins our party, we view it as a significant event and a moment to commend ourselves and thank Almighty God. Thats exactly our sentiment. The Progressive Governors resolved today to celebrate this development and extend congratulations to one another.”
Governor Oborevwori officially announced his defection to the APC on Wednesday, marking a notable shift in the political landscape of the Niger Delta region. 1 Uzodimma attributed the defection to the growing national recognition of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and policy direction.
“Governors who were not originally elected on the APC platform are now aligning with our party. Its a strong endorsement of President Tinubus inclusive leadership style and commitment to national unity,” Uzodimma stated. He highlighted the APC’s focus on sub-national governance, viewing Oborevwori’s move as a significant strengthening of the party and national cohesion.
The PGF meeting also addressed broader national issues, with the governors reaffirming their collective support for President Tinubu’s policies and vision. Uzodimma pledged that the governors would “continue to champion the administrations reform agenda and counter propaganda aimed at discrediting the governments efforts.”
“Despite the challenges, President Tinubus policies are beginning to show positive results. We pray God grants him the wisdom, courage, and strength to deliver even more dividends of democracy to the Nigerian people,” he concluded.
