Manchester City started their Premier League campaign with a dominant 4-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, extending their impressive record against them to ten wins in their last 11 league encounters.

After a tentative start, the first real chance fell to Erling Haaland, but his header went just over the bar. Wolves then looked to threaten, and Marshall Munetsi even headed home a goal, though it was disallowed for offside.

Against the run of play, City took control. Erling Haaland scored the first goal of the season for his team, tapping in a low cross from Rico Lewis. The momentum continued with new signing Tijjani Reijnders, who quickly added a second goal with a neat finish after a feed from Oscar Bobb. Reijnders’ goal was a good sign for City, given that his former club, AC Milan, won ten of the 13 games he scored in last season.

In the second half, Wolves showed some fight, with Jorgen Strand Larsen forcing a save from City goalkeeper James Trafford. However, City sealed the victory just after the hour mark when Haaland scored his second goal of the match, side-footing home a cutback from Reijnders. This was Haaland’s 10th Premier League goal against Wolves, making them his favorite opponent to score against. Another new signing, Rayan Cherki, also got on the score sheet late in the game with a fine finish to cap off City’s ruthless performance.

For Wolves, the defeat continues their poor record in August, as they have now won only once in 21 league matches played in that month. Meanwhile, City’s convincing victory places them at the top of the league table in the early stages of the season. Erling Haaland was named the Flashscore Man of the Match for his two-goal performance.
