In one of the biggest upsets in Eredivisie history, promoted side Telstar secured a shocking 2-0 victory over reigning champions PSV at the Philips Stadion. The loss is PSV’s second at home since November 2022 and marks Telstar’s first win in the top flight since 1978.

Telstar, who entered the match with two losses and a draw, started the game with surprising confidence. Striker Soufiane Hetli and teammate Patrick Brouwer both came close to scoring in the opening minutes, putting the PSV defense under early pressure.

The breakthrough came from an unlikely source as Tyrone Owusu, an amateur footballer just two years ago, scored a sensational goal. His powerful shot from a distance flew into the top corner, leaving PSV’s goalkeeper Matej Kovar with no chance.

PSV manager Peter Bosz made three substitutions at halftime in an attempt to change the momentum, but Telstar’s defense and a brilliant performance from their goalkeeper, Ronald Koeman Jr., held strong. Koeman Jr. made several crucial saves to deny PSV’s attackers, including a powerful shot from Ivan Perisic.

The historic victory was sealed when Patrick Brouwer scored Telstar’s second goal from a corner, stunning the Eindhoven crowd. The win sends shockwaves through the Eredivisie and serves as a major boost for Telstar as they begin their top-flight campaign.
