The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has expelled House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin, citing anti-party activities and failure to fulfill his financial obligations. The lawmaker, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji federal constituency, has also stated his ability to take a stand independently on his political future.

The expulsion was announced by the Kano State Chairman of the NNPP, Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa, during a press briefing on Saturday. Dungurawa accused Jibrin of consistently speaking out against the party and its leadership in the media. He labeled Jibrin a “weak politician,” asserting that his electoral victory was a direct result of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the NNPP platform, not his own political strength.

Dungurawa revealed that a reconciliation committee had been formed to engage with Jibrin following an interview he gave to Channels Television. However, a subsequent media appearance by the lawmaker demonstrated that he was working against the party’s interests, leading to the decision to expel him.

“If he was truly strong politically, he would have won his election under the APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” Dungurawa said.

He further stated that the party plans to take legal action to recover dues that Jibrin allegedly owes, describing the payment of dues as a constitutional requirement for all members.

Addressing speculation that Jibrin might return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dungurawa dismissed the notion, stating that such a move would not weaken the NNPP. He stressed that “politics is about groups and coalitions” and reaffirmed that the Kwankwasiyya movement remains solidly in support of its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
