Super-sub Ferran Torres scored twice on his Paris Saint-Germain debut as the defending champions fought back from two goals down to secure a dramatic 2-2 draw against Stade Rennais in their Ligue 1 opener.
The fixture was reversed to Rennes’ Roazhon Park following pitch damage at the Parc des Princes, and host manager Franck Haise’s side took full advantage of home turf early on. Sebastian SzymaÅ„ski opened the scoring in the ninth minute, driving a brilliant long-range strike past Matvey Safonov after being set up by Adrien Thomasson.
PSG responded with intent, but Désiré Doué saw a 21st-minute equalizer ruled out for offside before Ousmane Dembélé blazed a close-range effort over the bar. Rennes struck again in the 38th minute when Przemysław Frankowski cut the ball back for Esteban Lepaul to sweep a precise finish into the bottom corner.
Luis Enrique turned to his bench at halftime, introducing Torres and Mika Godts. Brice Samba initially kept the champions at bay with sharp saves to deny Doué and Warren Zaïre-Emery, but PSG’s persistent pressure finally broke Rennes’ resolve in the 71st minute. Fabián Ruiz picked out Torres with a lofted pass, and the Spaniard finished coolly to pull a goal back.
Torres struck again shortly after, heading home another precise delivery from Ruiz to pull PSG level and set up a tense final ten minutes. While the Parisians pushed for a late winner, Rennes held firm to preserve a point, denying PSG an opening-day victory.
