Liverpool’s winless streak in the Premier League stretched to six matches after being held to an entertaining 2-2 draw by Nottingham Forest at Anfield. The result leaves new manager Andoni Iraola with just two points from his opening two fixtures, while Forest head coach Oliver Glasner remains on the hunt for his first victory in charge of the visitors.
Following disappointing results on the opening weekend, both sides entered the match desperate to kickstart their campaigns. Forest set the tempo early, breaking the deadlock mid-way through the first half when Morgan Gibbs-White set up Swiss international Dan Ndoye to stroke a fine finish into the far corner.
Liverpool pressed for a response, with summer signing Florian Wirtz driving their attack. Wirtz had a goal ruled out after Jeremie Frimpong was caught offside in the build-up and later saw a header tipped over the bar by Matz Sels. Victor Munoz also missed a clear chance close to goal, while Alisson Becker produced a brilliant save at the other end to deny Igor Jesus just before halftime.
The hosts leveled the match on the hour mark when Cody Gakpo broke free down the right wing and delivered a low cross for Alexander Isak to tap home into an empty net.
Forest restored their advantage ten minutes later. Substitute Liam Delap took a quick throw-in to release Neco Williams, who was wiped out inside the penalty box by Alisson. Gibbs-White converted the resulting spot-kick to put the visitors ahead for the second time.
Liverpool rallied late, and Munoz made amends for his earlier miss by smashing a fierce strike in off the crossbar with under ten minutes remaining to secure his first goal for the club. Despite late pressure, Iraola’s side failed to find a winner, settling for a point in front of their home crowd.
