Mohamed Salah scored his first Turkish Süper Lig goals on Sunday, netting a brace to lift Trabzonspor to a 2-1 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir for their first win of the season.
The 34-year-old winger—who joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer following a nine-year, trophy-laden tenure at Liverpool—delivered a standout performance on his first league start, having made his club debut off the bench in their season opener.
Salah opened the scoring in the eighth minute, pouncing on a loose ball after Başakşehir goalkeeper Muhammed Şengezer failed to hold onto an initial effort. The visitors responded in the 19th minute through Eldor Shomurodov, who converted a penalty to bring Başakşehir level.
Three minutes into the second half, Salah restored Trabzonspor’s advantage. Driving down the right flank, he executed a sharp one-two with Ernest Muçi before slotting a low finish into the far corner.
The Egyptian star came close to securing a debut hat-trick, but had two additional efforts disallowed late in the match—the first for a foul during the buildup in stoppage time, and a second for offside after attempting a long-range effort into an empty net while Şengezer was caught upfield for a corner.
