Former Super Eagles captain and legendary goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, has voiced his unwavering confidence in Nigeria’s ability to overcome their current struggles in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Despite the team’s precarious position in Group C, Enyeama believes the Super Eagles have the pedigree and resilience to secure a spot in the tournament.

Nigeria currently sits fourth in Group C with seven points from six games, trailing leaders South Africa (13 points), Benin Republic, and Rwanda, who both have eight points. The team’s qualification journey has been complicated by a series of draws, but Enyeama insists that a turnaround is imminent.

“My stand is that Nigeria will qualify,†Enyeama told Punch. “Nigeria always comes out of the fire. They will beat South Africa, they will beat Rwanda, and they are going to qualify. I cross my fingers on that.â€

The qualification race has seen a new twist with reports of a potential points deduction for South Africa, who are alleged to have fielded an ineligible player in a previous match against Lesotho. This development could significantly alter the group’s dynamics and provide a crucial boost to Nigeria’s chances.

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles’ remaining fixtures include a critical away match against South Africa in Bloemfontein, a home game against Rwanda in Uyo, and final fixtures against Lesotho and the Benin Republic.

Enyeama, who retired from international football in 2015 after earning 101 caps, maintains his optimism. “Nigeria has always shown that when things look difficult, they find a way to come out stronger. I believe it will be the same this time,†he concluded.
