The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has inaugurated a new executive committee to lead its Sokoto and District Society, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to professional integrity, innovation, and national development.

The investiture ceremony, held in Sokoto on Saturday saw Alhaji Ganiyu Mustafa, formally take the reins as the 6th Chairman of the District Society, succeeding Ismail Suleiman, who was applauded for his outstanding service and commitment during his tenure.

In a show of strong institutional support, ICAN’s National President, Haruna Yahya, commended the outgoing leadership for maintaining high standards of professionalism and upholding the institute’s values.

Represented by the zonal Vice Chairman, Ibrahim Alkali, he emphasized the critical role district societies play in addressing professional challenges, expanding community engagement, and fostering excellence across the board.

Our district societies are not just administrative structures.

“They are the heartbeat of ICAN’s nationwide influence, spearheading initiatives like the Catch Them Young Programme and helping to shape a generation of ethical financial professionals,” he said.

The new leadership was urged to build on this foundation by embracing innovation, enhancing digital competence, and strengthening global partnerships.

ICAN’s ongoing initiatives were highlighted, including the digitisation of its examination processes, the establishment of the Small and Medium Practice Academy, and the development of global certification pathways designed to keep members competitive on the international stage.

Representatives from the financial sector, academia, and the public service joined ICAN members at the event, which also featured a keynote address from the Sokoto State Government.

Delivering remarks on behalf of Governor Ahmed Aliyu, the state Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry, Bahir Abass, congratulated the new executive and pledged continued collaboration between the state government and ICAN.

“On behalf of the Sokoto State Government, I extend heartfelt congratulations to the new chairman and his team.

“We recognise the vital role chartered accountants play in economic planning, fiscal responsibility, and public trust.

“Our administration remains committed to supporting ICAN’s efforts in promoting financial literacy, professional ethics, and capacity building particularly for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises,” the commissioner said.

The immediate past chairman of the District, Mr Ismael Sulaiman, commended his executive members for living up to expectations during their tenure.

He further encouraged young professionals to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, and continuous learning, describing the accounting profession as a cornerstone of good governance and sustainable development.
