The Rivers State Police Command has issued a stern warning to women, stating that it is a punishable crime to collect money for transportation from a man and subsequently fail to show up for an arranged meeting. The police have clarified that this act constitutes “obtaining money under false pretence,” a criminal offense in Nigeria.
The warning, which came in a video posted online by Rivers Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, was in response to a rise in reports of the practice. Iringe-Koko explained that anyone found guilty of this deceitful act could face arrest and prosecution if a victim reports the matter to the police. She emphasized that all complaints from victims would be taken seriously and would lead to investigations to ensure offenders are held accountable.
