In a revealing interview with The Sun, Senator Rufai Hanga, representing Kano Central on the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) platform, has disclosed his crucial role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The senator recounted a pivotal meeting with President Bola Tinubu, stating that the political alliance leading to the APC’s creation stemmed from their direct discussions.

Senator Hanga detailed a private meeting at Tinubu’s Abuja residence, where they discussed the future of Nigerian politics. He emphasized the intimate nature of the meeting, stating that the foundational discussions for the APC took place in Tinubu’s bedroom.

“I have a lot of respect for Tinubu,” Hanga said, reflecting on their long-standing relationship. “If not for me, APC would not have existed, and no one gave me a dime. Tinubu came to Arewa House in Abuja, invited me to his house, we sat in his bedroom, and agreed on how APC would be formed.”

He highlighted that his collaboration with Tinubu was rooted in mutual respect and a shared political vision, crediting their partnership for the APC’s subsequent success and its significant impact on Nigeria’s political landscape.

Despite his past involvement with the APC, Senator Hanga affirmed his unwavering loyalty to his current political leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the NNPP. He made it clear that he would not betray his leader, even at the risk of losing his Senate seat.

“I will not betray my leader, even if it means losing my seat,” Hanga declared, underlining his commitment to the NNPP amidst the party’s ongoing political challenges and internal struggles.

Senator Hanga’s revelations shed new light on the APC’s origins and the influential figures behind its formation. His account highlights the complex and fluid nature of Nigerian politics, marked by shifting alliances and ideological conflicts.

As Nigeria approaches future elections, Hanga’s insights serve as a reminder of the intricate power dynamics and deep political connections that shape the nation’s governance.
