Real Madrid has officially appointed Xabi Alonso as their new head coach, marking a significant moment in the club’s history. Alonso, a former midfield maestro for Los Blancos, returns to the Santiago Bernabu with a three-year contract, set to commence on June 1, 2025.

Alonso’s managerial prowess was on full display during his tenure at Bayer Leverkusen, where he led the team to an unbeaten Bundesliga title, along with victories in the German Cup and Super Cup. His success in Germany has positioned him as one of Europe’s most promising young managers.

The transition comes as Carlo Ancelotti, the most decorated manager in Real Madrid’s history with 15 major trophies, prepares to depart. Ancelotti’s recent challenges, including eliminations from the Champions League and Copa del Rey, and a trailing position in La Liga, have led to a mutual agreement for his exit.

Alonso is set to take the helm during the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which begins on June 14. This early start provides him with an opportunity to implement his coaching philosophy and assess the squad ahead of the new season.

In anticipation of Alonso’s arrival, Real Madrid is reportedly planning to bolster the squad with key signings. Notably, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who recently announced his departure from Liverpool, is among the targeted additions. The club also aims to strengthen its defense with a new left-back and center-back, addressing areas identified for improvement.

Alonso’s return to Real Madrid signifies a new era, blending his rich history with the club as a player and his recent managerial successes. Fans eagerly await the impact of his leadership as the team embarks on this fresh chapter.
